The Sea of Galilee and Tiberias
Getting there

The Sea of Galilee and Tiberias

Direct buses from Tel Aviv and Haifa, a longer line from Jerusalem, and a full day of lake, old town and hot springs.

Tiberias is the easy base for the Sea of Galilee. The old town, the shore and the central bus station are within walking distance of each other, and from there you continue to the rest of the area.

Alleys, a small market, fish restaurants from the lake and a long promenade right on the water.

Hamat Tiberias

Natural hot springs with organized pools, a short ride from town.

The Sea of Galilee beaches

Swimming beaches, short boat trips and sailboats, the easiest lake in the country to walk around.

Capernaum

An ancient Christian site on the shore of the lake, about 20 minutes from town.

The view over the lake

Viewpoints along the shore and the hills above it, best in the soft light of late afternoon.

2

On Friday and Shabbat service to the Sea of Galilee area is very limited, so plan a weekday visit.

3

Summer here is very hot: go early in the morning or after four in the afternoon.
